About Rachel:
Hailing from Mansfield, Ohio, soprano Rachel Fitzgerald most recently made her Santa Fe Opera debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Fitzgerald is thrilled to be an Apprentice Singer at The Santa Fe Opera for the 2024 season, singing in the choruses of La Traviata, Elixir of Love, and The Righteous (world premiere). Other recent performances include: the title role in Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night (IU-JSOM 2024), Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow (IU Opera Theater 2023), and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Tel Aviv Summer Opera 2023). The 2024-2025 season showcases Fitzgerald as a Jan Miller Studio Artist at Pensacola Opera, covering the roles of Nedda in I Pagliacci and Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro. A student of Heidi Grant Murphy, Fitzgerald holds graduate degrees from Indiana University - Jacobs School of Music and University of Cincinnati - College-Conservatory of Music.
Fitzgerald performed the role of Mutter in Hansel und Gretel (IUOT 2022), was the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with IU Philharmonic Orchestra and Oratorio Chorus, and was the 2023-2024 recipient of the Georgina Joshi Graduate Fellowship (IU JSOM). At the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Fitzgerald performed the role of Ludmila in The Bartered Bride and Alice Ford in Falstaff. Previous credits include: Micaëla in Carmen with Mid-Ohio Opera, a Grisette in The Merry Widow with Opera Project Columbus, and 2 seasons with Opera Columbus' Education Outreach Program.
As an opera chorister, Fitzgerald performed with Cincinnati Opera in L'enfant et les sortilèges and Opera Columbus in Madame Butterfly, Carmen, and La Bohème. Fitzgerald was a New Orleans District winner, competing in the Gulf Coast Region of The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2024). She also received an Encouragement Award from Friends of Opera, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2023), 3rd place in the NATS National Final Competition (2019), and the Encouragement Award in the Cooper-Bing Vocal Competition (2018). Additionally, Fitzgerald holds a double B.M. from Ohio Wesleyan University in Vocal Performance and Piano Performance.
